MI Mohel specializes in the circumcision of infants 8 days and older. For those performing circumcision for health and other non-religious reasons, we recommend scheduling the procedure within the first 1-10 weeks after birth. When performing the procedure on a child of 30 days or older, healing time may be increased. We acknowledge that circumcision is considered elective surgery and is not medically required. Reasons to do so may be religious, cultural or other personal reasons. Parents should make an informed decision before deciding whether or not to perform this procedure.
MI Mohel takes a natural approach to circumcision. We do not recommend the use of Litocaine or any other anesthetic injections for the circumcision. In fact, doctors have told us that the introduction of injections and such are more painful than the entire procedure!
We do offer topical analgesics/numbing cream upon request.
Our bodies are quite adept at repairing themselves. The topical suggestions we provide are simply to protect the surgical site and prevent infection. The typical circumcision will begin to heal within five days, and completely heal within a month. (Complete skin fusion varies by child).
